Spring Tour Success for Curran - 12-3-2012

CURRAN STEERS NEW WORLD FOR SECOND BROADMEADOWS WIN

This is a fantastic start to the season for Frank and we at Stonebridge would like to wish him the best of luck .

For the second time in three years, Frank Curran topped the list at Broadmeadows for their leg of the HSI/Blue Grass Spring Tour.

Having won on St Patrick's Day in 2010 on Pepp, Curran repeated that feat with his father John's New World at the Ashbourne venue in a 17 horse jump off over Tom Holden's track in what was probably the most hotly contest Spring Tour that can be seen with just over 1 second separating the top six.

The Dungannon rider entered the ring as the third last combination and had the time of 39.04 set by Ger O'Neill with Currafen to beat. Jumping the last, clear all the way, Curran and New World stopped the clock in 38.99 to snatch the lead from O'Neill with two riders to go.

Liam O'Meara did what he could to beat Curran's time with Mr Coolcaum however, they had to settle for third recording a time of 39.61 just ahead of Edward Butler on Hillstreet. Brother of National Champion, Alexander, Edward Butler steered Alex Duffy and Alan Mahoney's grey gelding to a time of 40.26 to take fourth in their first Spring Tour.

Young Rider Daniel Coyle again claimed the  Sponsored Leading Young Rider prize by finishing fifth on Linzi Johnston's Topshelf in 40.32 to close the gap on John Floody at the top of the Leaderboard. Reigning Premier Series Champion again slotted into sixth, this time riding Tinarana's Sultan breaking the beam in 40.34.

Following the class, winning rider Frank Curran said: ''The course suited her today, some of the turns were quite tight and she is good at turning tight to a fence. She is careful so that allowed me to gallop to the last. I'll hopefully do a few more of the  Classes building towards the Premier Series.''

The Spring Tour continues next weekend with a double header at Claremorris on Saturday and Portmore on Sunday.
